This is a contentious issue. You either love them or hate them. Croc’s, Rubber Shoes or Foamy Fun Shoes as one of my son’s nicknamed them. But I say, “Don’t knock them until you’ve tried them”.
I started with just one pair. You wear them around the house. They protect your feet from getting dry skin dragging them over the tiles and carpet all day. Warm in winter and cool and airy in summer. Easy to wear with socks too for extra comfort. They are comfortable to wear and it’s like walking on air. Then you say they will just pop out to the mail box and to put the bins out. After that stage, you just need to head up the road to the shops. Just one shop to start with. In case anyone sees you. Then it’s a shopping centre. Perhaps on holiday where no one knows you and before you know it, you are all over the beaches, café’s, parties, markets, cruises, family events and everywhere else you go, because they are just so darn comfortable.
If you have wide feet like myself, rubber shoes are ideal. Lots of space to spread out in. No broken toe nails from being squished into tight shoes. They are great for gardening too and protect your feet a lot from things dropping onto your feet, standing on sharp things, mowing the lawns, weed eating, and generally just feel safer to wear in the garden.
I do a lot of outdoor activities, head to the beach often and get about in country or seaside towns doing van life where no body knows me anyway. They are ideal to go from the water and sand, to the outdoor shower, then onto the back of the electric bike to shoot down the road. They dry fast and are hardwearing. They go in the blow-up canoe, onto boats and jet skis and wherever else I need foot protection. You know they will float if they fall overboard so are ideal for water-based activities.
They have two modes, one is ‘Slip On’ mode which ideal for the house and then what I call ‘Four Wheel Drive’ mode. This means pulling back the strap and securing it over your heel. Now you are ready for outdoor activities.
Ordering from my own shop, I have my original pair which after a few years of constant wear are getting worn out. These are now backup house ones. I bought another pair to wear out in public, and after a few years of getting about in these, they have now become my lawnmowing and gardening pair. I bought a cute pair of Wildflowers design ones that are saved for seeing the town while on holiday. Then there’s my new Frangipani ones to wear around the house because I love them so much. They are worn all day every day, indoors and out.
An extra pair I designed and got printed with Christmas decorations on them, I wore whilst photographing Santa on the beach in November/December 2025. Because it’s the Redlands, the sand on the beach was quite red at low tide, so these shoes were ideal to take home, put in the bath and clean them. They dried in a matter of minutes and were ready for the next day. I love how fast they dry and how easy they are to clean. I got lots of compliments on my festive footwear and made some for my assistant to wear too.
Compared to the original brand of these, the ones in my shop are slightly lighter on your feet but feature the same breathing holes, backstraps, wide sizing, are cheaper and come in cool designs. Once ordered they take approx. 2 weeks to arrive.
If you have something special you might like to put on a pair of these versatile shoes, such as your dog’s face, a particular colour scheme, pics of your favourite flower etc, I am happy to either work with your supplied image or design something special for you. I have done this in the past with a lady who wanted white daisies on a yellow background with purple butterflies for her daughter.
Check out all the current designs at ppddesigns.com and feel free to reach out if I can do something cool for you.
